It Isn’t Going To Fix Itself: Get Involved

There is not a lot we can do about Trump and the Republicans in DC at the moment. But we can call or write to our current CD3 Rep, Jeff Hurd. We can comment on UnHurd’s social media pages and let him know how we feel about his poor voting choices or other efforts. (His office contact details can be found HERE.)

AND . . . there are things we can do right here, locally, with the Mesa County Democrats (MCD). This year we have two candidates for the Colorado State House – Mallory Martin HD54 and Brittni Packard HD55. We can help these two young women get elected to office.

How do we do that?

We can do several things:

  • We can get on social media. For example, visit Democrat State House candidates Mallory’s and Brittni’s pages and “Like, Comment and Share.” Do this every morning while having your coffee. (Links to their pages are on our website HERE.)

  • We can do the same for the Mesa County Dems and Indivisible GJ social media pages. And sign up for each of their informative newsletters.

  • We can all host a house party or arrange a picnic at a nearby park and invite your neighbors to connect and discuss issues that matter to most people.

  • We can submit Letters to the Editor in the GJ Sentinel. If you would like the Mesa Dems to help with writing, submitting letters or topics, reach out to our leadership for guidance.

The Mesa Dems often host candidate and social gatherings. Watch our newsletter and check out the EVENTS & CALENDAR page of the MCD website. Attend these functions with like-minded folks and introduce yourself to Mallory, Brittni, or other candidates as they schedule rallies or meet-n-greets in Mesa County. You can visit the Mesa Dems office, too.

  • Most of all, we need you to show up at our events. Help with the booth setup and staffing. Learn to help people update their voter registration. Answer questions. Distribute literature.

  • March in parades to strengthen our presence in the community. Wouldn’t it be amazing if we had a hundred people march in the 4th of July parade? This would show all the like-minded people that they are not alone in Mesa County. Last year we met after the parade for a BBQ at the MCD headquarters. Why not help organize another one this year?

These – and a number of other activities – are all things that we can do now and throughout the year.

HERE is a recent article by Robert Reich (4/20/26 - “What You Can Do NOW : The 10 Most Important Things to Resist NOW (Revised. Updated. Expanded.”).

It isn’t going to fix itself.

It’s up to us to be part of the solution process to get it done. You can help the Mesa Dems get the word out, share the newsletter, attend events, voice your opinions, and let the good people of Mesa County know who their candidates are. We already trust the positive influence they will have, that they will proudly represent us, and work diligently for Western Slope issues when elected. We invite you to learn more about them and the Mesa County Democrats.
