Ready to Run?
We are currently recruiting for Emerge Colorado’s very excellent summer training for women interested in running for office. It is an great opportunity for remote training (no travel!) specifically for rural women Democrats.
Here, and attached, is the info:
I know some of you personally, but for those I have not yet met, I’m a former 3-term San Miguel County Commissioner, current Secretary of the San Miguel County Democratic Party, and a contractor with Emerge Colorado. My task with Emerge is to recruit women for this 30-hour training this June.
Please feel free to reach out to me or your Mesa County Co-Chair (Maria Keenan) if you’d like more info! I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks a million!
SAVE THE DATE: 2021 Obama Dinner
The Obama Dinner has been re-scheduled by the Colorado Democratic Party.
It's never too early to start planning for the 2021 Obama Dinner, which will be held on Saturday, April 24! Yes, it will be virtual, because remember that we are still in the middle of a pandemic. Be a good neighbor and a good Democrat, and support your state Democratic Party while we all maintain social distancing and listen to science!
Here's the LINK to buy tickets and more information.
UPDATE of GUESTS ... AGAIN (3/17/21)
We are excited to announce a few additions to our April 24th Obama Gala this year—Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM) and Congressman Adam Schiff (CA); these two leaders in our parties are champions of progressive causes and no strangers to Colorado.
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham is the first-ever Democratic Latina governor in the United States. As governor, Lujan Grisham has enacted progressive and groundbreaking policies and investments that have transformed New Mexico’s public education system, expanded the state’s economy to include more high-quality career opportunities and preserved New Mexico’s precious natural resources and environment.
Congressman Adam Schiff represents California's 28th District in Congress, and currently serves as the Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Over the last four years, Adam Schiff was on the front lines of the struggle to protect and preserve our democracy and uphold the rule of law. Schiff is the lead author of landmark reforms to prevent future abuses of executive power and build back our democracy better, the Protecting Our Democracy Act.
They will join... Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) will be joining Senators Alex Padilla(D-CA) and John Ossoff (D-GA) as headliners at our annual Obama Gala this year!
Senator Booker attended Stanford University on a football scholarship and helped fellow students by working as a peer crisis counselor. Instead of pursuing a lucrative career after leaving Yale, Cory moved into Newark’s Central Ward, and eventually into a public housing project, where he lived for eight years. In 2006, he was elected mayor with 72 percent of the vote. A United States Senator since 2013, Cory has written and championed dozens of bills aimed at fixing our broken criminal justice system, expanding economic opportunity, and fighting for equal justice for everyone.
In 2016, Senator Hassan was elected to represent New Hampshire in the United States Senate, winning one of the most competitive Senate races in the country by 1,017 votes. She is only the second woman in American history to be elected as both Governor and Senator. During her first four years in the Senate, Senator Hassan introduced more than 50 bipartisan bills on everything from tax cuts for innovators to clean energy to supporting veterans’ transition to civilian life -- a number of which became law.
The MCD Spring Fling has been postponed until... October 30, 2021 at Wine Country Inn, Palisade... likely outside dining. Much depends on the COVID-19 pandemic and what restrictions are in place in Mesa County. When we have other new information, we will alert everyone ASAP.
The Obama Dinner is currently being planned for April 24, 2021. Check back for details as they become available. Tickets required and the event will likely be virtual.
We have cancelled our monthly meeting as well as our monthly Women’s Group for now as a precaution against COVID-19. We will keep you informed for our plans. Please make sure to keep washing your hands and follow procedures to prevent passing along this virus.
