Grand Junction, CO — The Mesa County Democrats remain committed to building a thriving community where young people, families, and seniors have access to the resources they need to grow strong, stay healthy, and live well. Investments in community infrastructure — such as the Orchard Mesa Pool — are vital to strengthening the quality of life in Mesa County. These resources diversify our economy, attract new businesses, and directly address pressing issues like mental health, senior isolation, and family well-being.
The Impact of Measure 2C’s Failure
In 2019, Measure 2C, which proposed funding for a new Grand Junction Community Center, came close to passing thanks to the bipartisan work of hundreds of volunteers. Despite this effort, the measure narrowly failed, and today we are facing the consequences.
The potential closure of the Orchard Mesa Pool highlights the urgent need for sustainable community investment.
Grand Junction residents are ready for bold action, and we believe it is time for the Community Center proposal to return to the ballot.
A Call for Leadership and Cooperation
The immediate priority is to solve the maintenance and funding crisis at the Orchard Mesa Pool. Unfortunately, cooperation between the city, county, and school districts has been hampered by partisan divisions.
We call on local leaders to:
Put aside political egos.
Develop a shared vision for the Grand Valley’s future.
Work together on solutions that benefit the entire community.
Building a Stronger Mesa County Together
The Mesa County Democrats are proud of the progress made so far and the coalition of residents who recognize the importance of community resources. We will continue to advocate for:
A Grand Junction Community Center.
Affordable, accessible recreation options for all.
Local investments that build unity and strengthen the fabric of Mesa County life.
It’s time for our leaders to act. Mesa County deserves solutions that prioritize families, seniors, and the common good.
