For years, we’ve watched the same story unfold in Mesa County: The Republican Party rules unchallenged, and not necessarily because their ideas are better, but because they are the only ones showing up to run. When we leave seats empty, we aren’t just losing an election, we are surrendering our seat at the table.

On Saturday, March 7, 2026, registered Democrats across Mesa County gathered for the Colorado Caucus and county assembly, joining thousands of voters statewide in one of Colorado’s most important grassroots political traditions.

Kristi Noem’s rise and removal at DHS is a warning about what happens when leadership becomes spectacle instead of public service. In Mesa County, we responded the way communities do, by showing up, holding space, and demanding accountable, humane governance.

For years, these subsidies have been a lifeline for rural and low-income families. Schools and libraries stepped up, extending their connections so that students could access the internet from parking lots, community spaces, and even while riding the bus.
